Philip Glass - La Belle et La Bete

One of the many reasons I like this piece is because it was thematically based on my favorite Disney movie of all time Beauty and the Beast. It’s difficult to describe the feeling I get when I listen to Glass’s music, the only thing I can really say is the feeling of getting of lost in a magical world, in terms of best describing it. Glass uses a small set of building blocks that get assembled again and again in the same ways and eventually it all changed without notice into a completely new atmosphere and texture. This is a truly enchanting piece. Glass’s work never ceases to amaze me, just beautiful.

Chris Botti w/Lucia Micarelli - Emmanuel

Chris Botti being one of my favorite jazz trumpeter must be mentioned in one of these discussions of mine. This version of Emmanuel, WOW! What I especially liked about this piece is the combination of the violin and the trumpet as the dominant instruments, most often would not have heard in regular orchestra or compositional pieces. This piece evokes a certain sadness in which I find the trumpet and the violin to be in a way communicating with one another in the piece. The violin and trumpet reaches very high ranges allowing for this sadness to takeover. With the expression, dynamic, range and tempo changes, there is just so much content in this piece. There are a lot of ideas and themes present, which I find comes back in variation or transposition to keep audiences on their toes.

Listen to this piece, it will definitely tug on your heart strings! AMAZING and BRILLIANT
